6 Steps to Start Your Journey to Better Health

If you are wanting to create healthy eating habits but have no idea where to start, then this post is for you!

If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed at the idea of swapping white bread for quinoa, Coca-Cola for coconut water and eating raw cacao instead of Cadbury chocolate then these 6 steps are just what you'll need.

1. Drink more water

Not only will you start to feel amazing, your skin will love you for it. Water helps eliminate toxins from the body and maintains blood and cell volume. The Recommended intake is 2-3 litres of water per day. Start off by aiming at 1 litre for the first week, then work up to 2 litres in the second week and if your up for it try 3 litres the third week!

2. Eliminate or minimise your intake of refined sugars.

If you are a choc-a-holic like me, then swap your favourite Cadbury chocolate for 70-85% dark chocolate, or alternatively my favourite Pana Chocolate. Eat low GI fruits, berries and swap rice malt syrup or stevia for sugars in cooking.

3. Eat more greens

Add them (leafy greens)to your smoothies, anything and everything!

4. Opt for a protein shake instead of a 3pm snack.

Instead of cows milk try using rice milk, goats milk or almond milk. I recommend using a raw vegan protein powder such as Sunwarrior with almond milk, raw cacao or berries, some rice malt syrup to sweeten or a banana.

5. Get more sleep

Aim for minimum 8 hours per night.

6. Cut out or minimise your alcohol intake and keep alcohol for special occasions.

Lets face it, everything in moderation but long term alcohol is doing absolutely nothing to support your body. If you choose to drink on occasions opt for vodka or gin + mineral water with lime, or the occasional glass of red wine.
